Whether you know or not juniors, you ARE the future of golf. And as the future ambassadors of golf you have a responsibility to the game, yourselves, fellow competitors, and of course family and friends.
Let me explain these statements.
First the game
First and foremost golf is a game! It is NOT a matter of life and death it is a game…period! If you miss a fairway or a putt, and you are going to, lightening is not going to come out of the sky and strike you down! Golf is a game and not of perfection but of keeping your misses closer. Golf is a game and not one of perfectly struck shots but minimizing your shot dispersion.
Secondly, yourselves
Think how you feel when one of your competitors throws a tantrum after hitting a poor shot or missing a putt. Do you feel embarrassed for them? Or, how about someone in your group that is always complaining, cursing and even throwing clubs? This kind of behavior shows a person’s character. Do you think college coaches condone this type of attitude? Or, how about the PGA Tour? Players get fined for this type of behavior! Golf builds, and shows, ones character. If you cheat on the golf course you WILL cheat during your life as well.
Be humble but confident. When introduced to other players have a smile on your face but inside keep thinking, “I am going to kick your tail today!”
Third, Golf set Junior
Your golf club is a very important factor when it comes to your golf swing, if you not using the right golf club you not going to win this game, Simple as that.
Fourth, fellow competitors
Your “job” as a player is to beat your fellow competitors. But you can only do that by playing by the rules AND having the lowest total number of strokes at the end of the tournament! It’s ok to be friends on and off the course and even if you don’t particularly like the person don’t show it in public or talk about the player behind their back.
Be gracious in winning or not winning. There are always more tournaments and you will ALWAYS not win more than you win!
And finally, family
Junior players sometimes fail to remember that without family support they would not be playing golf at competitive levels. Families make huge sacrifices for their junior golfer so don’t take it for granted and seek help and guidance from them and from your coach.
As players we all must take responsibility for our actions, success and non successes. It isn’t your parents fault, your coach’s fault or anyone else’s fault. YOU are the player and ultimately the person that controls the majority of the outcome. So stand up, hold your head up high and bear down! Only YOU know if you did your best, gave it your all and played as hard as you could.
If golf is something that you want to pursue on a higher level then you must make sacrifices too. Long hours of practice, working with your coach on better mechanics and course management are just the tip of the iceberg! You must have proper conditioning, proper mental training and get golf set junior that fit YOU!
